Rochester Steampunk AR

For my senior capstone project I worked on a location-based, narrative experience for mobile devices. Using prototypes and an initial narrative created by a previous studio class, I ported the prototype designs into Unity3D. Mapbox was used for handling map data and location tracking. A minimally viable version of the app was completed by the end of the semester.

After developing the app, I had to write a developer’s manual for future groups that may work on the project. During this project I had to make each system in the Unity project dynamic and easy to use. The end goal of this project is a location-based gaming platform that student groups can use to create narratives in the time span of a semester. The groups can consist of students with varying technical backgrounds, so everyone can have a task to complete within the process of creating a narrative. Students with more experience developing in Unity can improve the project flow for future groups.

The initial narrative follows three reporters in 1920’s Rochester, NY as they follow historically relevant factions in the city to uncover the mystery of a central event.
