Sail Defense

The RIT Sailing team asked me to design and develop a game for their fundraiser, so I created Sail Defense. The process of creating this game taught me about developing 2D games with Unity. Since the game had to be put online for participants to play, it had to be delivered as a web build. Another requirement was that the game had to offer chances of winning based solely on player skill, not chance (due to sweepstakes regulations).

Desigining and developing the game was relatively simple, as Unity proved much easier to make games with than xna gamestudio (the game engine I used for previous projects). The biggest issue with creating this game was the deadline given by the president of the sailing team. This was my first experience developing for a client, so I had to work on my professional communication skills. I gave the club’s eboard regular updates on the status of the project, and explained my process/reasoning.

The graphics for this game were all hand drawn in Adobe Photoshop with a Wacom pen tablet and animated using Unity’s built-in animator (Mechanim).
